Das’ Creamery, a beloved ice cream shop in Morristown, is mourning the sudden loss of 19-year-old Cameron Ray, a staff member who tragically died in a car accident on Sunday, November 3. The sophomore from Montclair State University was killed when his vehicle rear-ended a box truck on the shoulder of Route 80 in Denville.
Ray, who joined the team in April 2021, was preparing for his first day of work at the newly opened Das’ Creamery MooTown Morris Marketplace, located on East Hanover Avenue in Morristown. He had quickly become a beloved member of the crew, known for his infectious enthusiasm and uplifting personality.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media, Das’ Creamery owners described Ray as a “force of nature,” with a heart full of love and kindness. “He had an infectious enthusiasm for life, always brightening our days with his quick wit, endless humor, and fierce loyalty to Das. His spirit was one of boundless joy and optimism, and he was the first to lift others up when they needed it most.”
The tribute reflected the deep impact Ray had on his coworkers and the Das’ Creamery community. One colleague described him as “the kindest person ever,” recalling how much brighter work shifts were when Ray was there. “We always used to joke about our top 3 favorite people to work with and always knew he had that top spot,” the coworker wrote. “When I said goodbye to go back to college this summer I didn’t know it was going to be the last.”
Another colleague expressed their grief, stating, “Cam was one of a kind, and there are no words to describe the impact he made on the Das family. This news is beyond gut-wrenching, but what an honor it was to know him. Rest in peace, Camsterdam.”
Customers, too, are remembering Ray for his friendly demeanor and willingness to help. One customer shared, “I remember him smiling and so sweet, helping me as I came in with my three kids in tow. Sending our love and prayers to his family and the Das Creamery family.”
Ray’s death has left a deep void at Das’ Creamery, a place where he was known for his generosity and warm spirit. Services for Ray have not yet been finalized, but his memory is sure to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the Das’ Creamery community.
