In a significant development, two of the most renowned breweries in Northern England have joined forces for the first time to introduce a new stout. The 4.4% Northern Rising stout is the result of over a year of collaborative efforts between the award-winning Northern Monk and Timothy Taylor’s.
This new brew will be made available in cask and keg formats at the breweries’ own establishments and across pubs in the UK. Additionally, 440ml nitro stout cans will be sold in supermarkets and online. The brewing process incorporated roast barley and crystal malt, which contribute to a “malt-forward and satisfying chocolate” flavor. The inclusion of Golden Promise malt further enriches the beer, imparting a full body and a pleasing mouthfeel.
Russell Bisset, co-founder and managing director at Northern Monk, remarked, “We have held Timothy Taylor’s in high regard for numerous years, and a collaboration with them has always been a long-desired goal. We opted for a beer style that dates back 300 years, originating in London and made famous in Dublin. With stouts being the fastest growing beer style in the UK, we are eager for people to sample our interpretation of a classic.”
Andy Leman, head brewer at Timothy Taylor’s, stated, “Northern Monk, a fellow Yorkshire brewery, has been a friend we are proud to have for many years. They have crafted some of the most captivating craft beers in the nation. It has been an excellent experience to combine their craft beer prowess with our real ale proficiency to create Northern Rising, a truly delightful stout.
