A food delivery rider is facing suspension after an incident on January 20, where he was seen handling a pair of slippers during a delivery drop-off in Ang Mo Kio (AMK).
The incident, which was captured on CCTV, occurred in the early hours of the morning. The rider, who had completed a food delivery at a resident’s gate, can be seen taking a photo as proof of delivery. However, as he turns to leave, he reaches for a pair of slippers placed on a shoe rack outside the unit. Unbeknownst to him, the CCTV camera recorded the brief interaction, showing him holding the slippers before quickly returning them to the rack when the resident’s door opened.
A text message exchange between the rider and the resident, time-stamped around 4:15 a.m., reveals the resident’s concern.
“I call police you take my thing,” the resident texted.
The rider, responding in confusion, said, “Huh? No.”
The resident identified the slippers, saying, “My Adidas slipper,” prompting the rider to deny any wrongdoing, replying, “See properly have anot ma’am your slipper.”
However, the resident replied, “I know you put back,” to which the rider offered an unusual explanation: “Put back ya. Cos I see the slipper base got anti-slip or not. Never take or steal.”
In response to the incident, Grab swiftly suspended the rider. The company issued a statement confirming the suspension, stating: “We are aware of the incident and have since suspended the delivery-partner from our platform after our investigation.”
Grab’s actions come as part of their commitment to uphold the integrity of their service and ensure that such incidents do not undermine the trust of their customers. The investigation is ongoing.
