MORTON (25News Now) — In the wake of recent severe weather events across the southern U.S., Midwest Food Bank is increasing its disaster relief efforts to assist those affected by flash flooding and tornadoes.
The organization is distributing thousands of food boxes, hygiene kits, and cleanup supplies to communities in need.
“These back-to-back events show how quickly lives can be turned upside down,” said Lisa Martin, Chief Financial Officer at Midwest Food Bank. “When homes are flooded or roads are impassable, our food boxes and hygiene kits offer more than essentials — they provide comfort, hope, and the first step toward recovery.”
Currently, Midwest Food Bank is focused on the following regions:
Texas (April 2025 Flash Flood Emergency)
- 1,900 family food boxes
- 900 cleanup buckets
- 900 hygiene kits
- Over 30,000 pounds of food and supplies
- Ongoing efforts in flood-affected areas, especially in northeast Texas, including Texarkana.
Michigan (Record-Breaking Rainfall, April 2–4)
- 1,000 food boxes distributed
- Targeting Detroit, Dearborn Heights, and Flint, where residents faced flooded roadways, stranded vehicles, and significant property damage.
Kentucky & Tennessee (Severe Storms and Tornadoes, April 2–Present)
- New shipments of food and cleanup kits are in production, ready to be deployed.
