Retail giant Kroger has recently provided a donation of $5,000 to Senator Harold Jones II, with the specific intent of supporting organizations engaged in combating food insecurity.
Senator Jones, in a visit last week, embarked on a tour of the upcoming Kroger establishment on Eisenhower Parkway, scheduled to open its doors in the forthcoming spring. During this visit, he directed the allocated funds towards the Augusta Dream Center Inc. and the Savannah Riverkeeper.
Expressing his gratitude, Senator Jones articulated in a news release, “Through Kroger’s generous donation, we are able to support two incredible organizations dedicated to eradicating food insecurity.”
Notably, in 2021, Senator Jones took the initiative to propose legislation aimed at establishing the Senate Study Committee on Improving Access to Healthy Food. This committee conducted hearings throughout the state, facilitating discussions surrounding food accessibility and health. In subsequent years, namely 2022 and 2023, Senator Jones continued his efforts by presenting legislation to establish the Georgia Food Security Advisory Council, a platform designed to formulate policy recommendations addressing food security. These legislative endeavors garnered approval from the Georgia state Senate in both years, although they faced obstacles in the House of Representatives.
Kroger’s financial contribution to Senator Jones aligns with the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that address food insecurity and bolster community welfare.
