Renowned UFC superstar Israel Adesanya has entered a guilty plea for drink driving in a case that unfolded at the Auckland District Court. The incident saw Adesanya arrive at the court accompanied by his legal counsel and two personal security staff members.
According to court documents, the international fighting sensation faced charges related to driving a vehicle on Wellesley St in Auckland Central with a recorded alcohol level of 87 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood, surpassing the legal limit of 50 milligrams.
In a statement provided to the Herald, Adesanya expressed his remorse and publicly acknowledged his lapse in judgment, stating, “I want to apologize to the community, my family, and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at dinner.”
He continued, “I was pulled over and gave an evidentiary blood test – the reading was 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood. I am disappointed with my decision to drive; it was wrong. I know that people might follow me, and I want them to know I do not think this behavior is acceptable.”
The charges carry a maximum penalty of either a three-month prison term or a fine amounting to $4,500. Adesanya’s case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of impaired driving and highlights the importance of adhering to responsible alcohol consumption and road safety guidelines, even for high-profile figures.
