Jakarta (ANTARA) – Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo has underscored the paramount importance of international collaboration in the realm of food production, particularly when addressing pressing global challenges.
Minister Limpo articulated this perspective while participating in the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation, an event organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy.
In a statement received from the minister on Tuesday, he expressed hope that this conference could provide solutions to the apprehensions of nations worldwide, especially those related to the potential emergence of a global crisis.
Minister Limpo noted that a global crisis could trigger a multitude of problems affecting societies across the world. He emphasized the interconnectedness of the food sector with various other facets of life, stating, “When there is a shortage of food, it can lead to instability in government, potentially giving rise to political issues.”
To mitigate such challenges, the minister highlighted the necessity for a fresh approach to global food management. He looked to the FAO to play a pivotal role in shaping this new paradigm.
Limpo anticipated that the conference would yield recommendations that participating countries could implement to address these issues collectively.
Additionally, Minister Limpo stressed the significance of not only focusing on food production but also establishing a clear path for the downstream industry, ensuring that the products generated find a stable and accessible market.
Director-General of FAO, Qu Dongyu, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for actionable solutions to confront the complexities of the food sector, with a particular emphasis on livestock industries.
“We must collaborate to mend these issues. It’s not just about voicing concerns; we need solutions. This conference was designed with this purpose in mind,” Qu stated.
The Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation Forum serves as an international platform organized by FAO to facilitate knowledge-sharing, enhance awareness, and set priorities in the realm of sustainable livestock systems transformation.
Minister Limpo participated in a high-level panel discussion, alongside ministers and senior representatives from Uruguay, Somalia, and Australia, underscoring the global nature of the dialogue and cooperation needed to tackle food challenges effectively.
