Singapore – Casuarina Curry, a prominent roti prata chain, is facing a two-week suspension imposed by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) after the discovery of an infestation at its outlet located at 138 Casuarina Road in Sembawang Hills Estate.
The affected outlet will be closed from January 9 to January 22, following a notice posted on SFA’s website on Tuesday, January 9. The outlet’s licensee will also be subject to an $800 fine for two violations, specifically the failure to maintain licensed premises free of infestation and the sale of unclean food. Each violation carries six demerit points and occurred within a 12-month period, resulting in the imposed penalties.
Under SFA regulations, a licensee accumulating 12 or more demerit points within a year may face a suspension of up to four weeks or even the cancellation of their license.
As part of the penalty, all food handlers at the affected outlet are required to retake and pass the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1 before returning to work. Food hygiene officers working at the premises must also retake and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.
SFA has underscored the severity of these offenses and urged all food operators to strictly adhere to good food and personal hygiene practices, employing only registered food handlers.
The agency further encourages the public to exercise caution and avoid establishments with subpar food safety practices, urging them to report any concerns through the SFA’s online feedback form or by contacting the contact center at 6805-2871.
