Noida residents have voiced alarm following reports of customers falling ill after dining at a McDonald’s outlet in Sector 18 and Theobroma bakery in Sector 104. Responding swiftly, officials from the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (FDA) have launched an investigation into these incidents.
The complaints were formally registered through the Food Safety Connect portal of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). At McDonald’s, a customer reported feeling unwell after consuming a burger and french fries, while at Theobroma, a woman allegedly fell ill after eating a stale cake.
Archana Dheeran, Assistant Commissioner (Food) of FDA Gautam Buddh Nagar, has confirmed receiving these complaints and outlined the subsequent actions taken. A team from the FDA promptly visited the McDonald’s outlet to collect samples, including palm oil, cheese, and mayonnaise, for safety and quality assessments.
Similarly, in response to the complaint against Theobroma, FDA officials obtained samples of the cake for laboratory analysis. Dheeran has assured that if any issues are identified in the laboratory reports, appropriate measures will be taken, potentially including legal action against the establishments involved.
The investigation aims to identify the cause of the reported illnesses and ensure consumer safety. The prompt response by the FDA highlights the critical importance of maintaining stringent food safety standards and addressing consumer concerns without delay.
Dheeran emphasized the FDA’s commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and awaiting the laboratory results, expected within a month. If the sampled products fail safety assessments, further actions will be taken, potentially resulting in legal proceedings against the implicated outlets.
