Chengdu, June 3 (Xinhua) — Ahmed Mohammed Jaber, also known as Wang Lixuan, emerges in a crisp suit, addressing his audience in Mandarin with a discernible accent, initiating his latest gastronomic expedition on camera. Jaber, an Iraqi native who has called China home for a decade, has amassed a significant following in the country.
Born in war-torn Iraq in 1994, Jaber’s upbringing is intertwined with the harsh realities of conflict and displacement. Enduring the turmoil, his family traversed from Iraq to Syria before finding refuge in China with the assistance of relatives in 2014.
In 2018, Jaber embarked on a short video training program, equipping himself with rudimentary editing skills and adeptness in navigating social media and short video platforms such as Bilibili and Douyin. During one of his excursions, he documented his culinary experiences, sharing his impressions and critiques online following post-production, garnering substantial acclaim.
Buoyed by his initial success, Jaber persisted in crafting gastronomic exploration videos, endearing himself to a burgeoning audience with his genuine affection for Chinese cuisine and proficiency in the language.
“I may be a foreigner, but I’m not an outsider. I cherish a tranquil existence and am drawn to peace-loving individuals,” remarks Jaber, reflecting on his journey from the strife-ridden landscapes of Iraq and Syria to the serenity he found in China over the past decade.
Looking ahead, Jaber aspires to diversify his content to encompass facets of Chinese tourism, tea culture, traditional attire, customs, and ethnic diversity, with the objective of offering nuanced insights into China to a global audience.
