Middlebury, Ind. (June 4, 2024) – The Middlebury Food Pantry has announced the commencement of its ‘Summer Food Program’, a vital initiative aimed at ensuring children have access to nutritious meals during the summer break.
Running from June 6 to August 9, 2024, the program seeks to address the potential gap in food security that many families face when school is out of session.
Families can avail themselves of this service every Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. and every Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meals, which adhere to federal guidelines, are available to all children aged 18 or younger.
Additionally, the Middlebury Food Pantry is offering free backpack distributions alongside the provision of lunches. These backpacks are stocked with essential food items to support families throughout the week.
Each backpack includes:
- 6 frozen meals
- 1 package of cheese slices
- 1 package of lunch meat per child
A voucher for Forks County Line Store, redeemable for 1 gallon of milk, 1 dozen eggs, and 1 loaf of bread
Distribution of the backpacks occurs on a first-come, first-served basis every Thursday and Friday throughout the summer months. Families are kindly requested to limit their visits to once per week.
This initiative is made possible through collaborative efforts with Cultivate Food Rescue, the Township of Middlebury, Forks County Line Store, and the Bontrager Family Foundation.
The Middlebury Food Pantry is conveniently located at 13307 County Road 16 in Middlebury, Ind. 46540, situated on the east side of the Pleasant Oaks Building.
