CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — After 15 years of service, the Local Food Hub, an organization dedicated to enhancing access to farm-sourced food, has announced its closure by the end of this year.
The Local Food Hub has been pivotal in procuring food directly from local farmers and distributing it to numerous low-resource households at no charge. In addition to its distribution efforts, the organization has played a significant role in community education through workshops focused on farming techniques and food preparation.
Lynsie Steel, Director of Development for the Local Food Hub, expressed the difficulty of the decision to cease operations: “Losing an organization like Local Food Hub is undeniably a significant loss for the community, particularly impacting our farmers and recipients of fresh produce. However, the governing board of directors arrived at this decision after extensive deliberation.”
The organization’s final fresh food delivery is scheduled for July 15th, with full closure set for December 31, 2024.
