St. Joseph, MN – The St. Joseph Community Food Shelf has kicked off its annual ‘Christmas in July’ food drive this month, aiming to support increased community needs during the summer months. The initiative comes as the food shelf reports a surge in client numbers, while donations typically decrease during this period.
“We see a greater demand for our services in the summer, yet donations often slow down,” said a spokesperson for the St. Joseph Community Food Shelf. “Our ‘Christmas in July’ drive is crucial in ensuring we can continue to meet the needs of our community.”
The food shelf is currently emphasizing the need for items such as breakfast syrup, peanut butter, canned fruit, feminine products, toilet paper, baby wipes, and diapers in sizes 5 and 6. Monetary contributions are also welcomed to support their ongoing efforts.
Located at 18 Birch Street, the St. Joseph Community Food Shelf operates from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Donations can be dropped off directly at their facility or mailed to P.O. Box 121 in St. Joseph.
In addition to the main drop-off location, residents of St. Joseph can contribute at several other sites including Obbink Distilling, Coborn’s, and the Minnesota Street Market. For those in Waite Park, donations are accepted at Cash Wise on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The ‘Christmas in July’ food drive not only aims to replenish essential supplies but also highlights the ongoing support needed to combat food insecurity within the community. Residents are encouraged to contribute generously to ensure that everyone in need receives vital assistance during the summer months.
