Taipei, July 11 (CNA) — A goose meat restaurant in Taipei has been ordered to shut down following reports of severe food poisoning among its customers, the city’s Department of Health announced on Thursday.
Chou’s Goose Meat, situated on Dongxing Street in Nangang District, was closed on the morning of July 7. This action followed nearly a dozen complaints from customers to both Taipei and Taoyuan municipal health authorities, according to the department.
Patrons reported experiencing acute symptoms of food poisoning, including vomiting, diarrhea, and fever, after consuming smoked or salted goose slices from the restaurant. Eleven individuals sought medical assistance due to their symptoms, the department confirmed.
Initial reports of food poisoning linked to Chou’s Goose Meat surfaced on July 6, prompting an immediate investigation by health inspectors.
Health officials collected samples from various sources within the restaurant, including the hands of kitchen staff, a wok, spatula, knife, and chopping board. These samples have been sent to a laboratory for testing, with results expected in approximately two weeks.
Chou’s Goose Meat will remain closed until further notice, pending the outcome of the investigation.
