In an effort to enhance the in-store experience, Walmart (WMT) is embarking on a major renovation project across its stores, investing $9 billion to modernize over 1,400 locations. These updates aim to create a more inviting atmosphere for shoppers, with redesigned interiors, improved signage, and expanded service areas like pharmacies and vision centers. Interactive displays and enhanced digital features will also be introduced to engage customers more effectively.
Building on the success of its in-store dining options, which currently include familiar names like McDonald’s, Subway, and Taco Bell, Walmart is now diversifying its food offerings further. The retail giant has partnered with Mr. Gatti’s Pizza to introduce 92 new pizza shops in select stores across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Kentucky. These new dining establishments are set to open by the fourth quarter of 2024, marking a significant expansion for Mr. Gatti’s, which will nearly double its nationwide presence to over 230 locations.
“We’ve been vocal for years now about our ambitious growth goals, and this partnership with Walmart enables us to accelerate our expansion into new areas while continuing to strengthen our presence in familiar communities,” said Jim Phillips, CEO of Mr. Gatti’s.
Each new Mr. Gatti’s Pizza location within Walmart stores will be a scaled-down version of its traditional model, ranging in size from 800 to 1,500 square feet. Known for their interactive games and family-friendly atmosphere, these mini shops will offer a tailored experience for Walmart shoppers looking to dine conveniently during their visit.
The move reflects Walmart’s strategy to transform its stores into more than just shopping destinations, aiming to create a holistic and engaging experience for customers across its nationwide footprint.
