Le Matin Patisserie, renowned for its innovative pastries, is set to make a comeback with its new dessert-tasting menu concept, “Apres,” debuting in Singapore on November 9 and 10, 2024. This exciting pop-up experience follows a temporary closure earlier this year.
The unique menu will not only feature traditional sweet ingredients like hazelnut and beeswax but will also incorporate savory elements, including mussels, Wagyu beef, and lobster. This fusion approach aims to create an unforgettable culinary experience.
In collaboration with Los Angeles-based ceramics brand Only Way Is Up Goods (OWIU Goods), Le Matin has crafted a nature-inspired dinnerware collection that will enhance the dining presentation at the pop-up, which will be hosted at Rappu Japanese restaurant. The cost for the tasting menu is S$148++ per person.
Founded by pastry chef Mohammad Al-Matin, Le Matin Patisserie began as an online venture in 2020. Al-Matin, a former chef at esteemed establishments such as Restaurant Andre and Noma, gained popularity for his French pastries featuring unconventional flavors, including escargot. After transitioning to a takeaway spot and hosting various pop-up events, he opened a café at Ion Orchard, which closed after one year.
The Apres pop-up marks Al-Matin’s first project since closing the café. The name “Apres,” meaning “after” in French, symbolizes “the calm that follows fulfillment—a journey of rediscovery and indulgence,” according to Al-Matin.
While specific details of the menu remain limited, diners can expect a variety of ingredients, including garlic, kombu, mushroom truffles, Jerusalem artichoke, chicken, soursop, cacao duck fat, and bee pollen. Notably, the pop-up will also bring back beloved items like Le Matin’s financiers and dark chocolate soufflé from the café’s all-day dining menu.
Each course will be thoughtfully designed to complement the aesthetic of OWIU Goods’ ceramics. The Le Matin Apres pop-up will offer two seatings for both lunch and dinner, with a dining duration of approximately 120 minutes.
