A new initiative aimed at fostering social interaction among senior citizens is offering discounted sugar-free beverages at select coffee shops in Bukit Batok. Seniors aged 60 and above can enjoy a cup of kopi-O kosong or teh-O kosong for just 70 cents on Wednesdays and Fridays—significantly cheaper than the usual price of $1.20.
The initiative, which will run until June 30, 2025, is available at 12 participating coffee shops across Bukit Batok Streets 32 and 33, as well as Bukit Batok West Avenues 4, 5, 8, and 9.
In addition to the discounted drinks, the Hong Kah North Active Aging Committee is launching the Seniors Tea-Time programme. The initiative combines the affordable beverage offer with health education sessions and physical activities, aimed at encouraging seniors to adopt healthier lifestyles while engaging in community bonding.
The programme will rotate among the participating coffee shops, helping to bring seniors together while addressing the issue of social isolation. Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State and Advisor to the Hong Kah North Grassroots Organisations, highlighted the benefits of the programme, saying, “We hope to encourage seniors to come and enjoy affordable coffee at least once or twice a week, while also fostering friendships and promoting healthy eating and drinking habits.”
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support the well-being of seniors in the community, offering both social and health benefits in a relaxed and accessible setting.
