A significant setback has emerged just two weeks into the roll-out of President Prabowo Subianto’s free nutritious meal program, as dozens of students across multiple regions have reported cases of foodborne illness.
On January 16, 40 students at SDN Dukuh 03, a state elementary school in Sukoharjo regency, Central Java, became ill after consuming pre-packed lunches supplied by a local caterer. The meal, which is part of the government initiative, included white rice, fried breaded chicken, stir-fried carrots and tofu, sliced dragon fruit, and a carton of milk.
