SINGAPORE — A customer expressed her frustration online after being charged S$8.64 for a meal consisting of rice, chicken, and dory fish. On Monday, February 3, Facebook user Jane Koh shared her experience in a complaint group, posting a receipt that detailed the price breakdown.
“The food is so expensive and not nice,” Koh wrote. “I think our daily expenses are on the high side.” The attached photo showed a green plate of white rice, a fried drumstick, and several pieces of breaded dory fish.
The meal cost Koh S$8.64, after a 10 percent reward discount was applied. The breakdown revealed that the fried chicken and dory fish were priced at S$4.20 each, while the rice was S$1.20. Without the discount, the total would have been S$9.60.
Her post sparked a range of reactions online, with some users voicing similar concerns. One commenter agreed, stating, “Sometimes the food is so badly prepared that we wonder if it’s cooked by children. It’s just unappetizing and inedible.”
Another user pointed out the small portion size relative to the price: “The serving is so pathetic yet expensive,” they wrote.
A third person took issue with the cost of the rice, saying, “Rice for $1.20? Is it made of gold?”
In a related incident, a customer shared a similar complaint in January, revealing they were charged S$3.80 for two pieces of bread despite a “Buy 3 for S$3.50” promotion at the same store. The user questioned the pricing logic, stating, “If you’re running a business, shouldn’t the math and pricing make a little more common sense?”
