JD.com, one of China’s largest e-commerce platforms, has officially launched its food delivery service, JD Takeaway. In a bid to attract catering merchants, the company is offering commission-free services for those who register by May 1, with the promotion running through the end of 2025.
The announcement, made via JD.com’s official Weixin account, introduces JD Takeaway as a direct competitor to established players in the food delivery market, such as Meituan and Alibaba’s Ele.me.
Leveraging its robust logistics network, known for facilitating same-day and next-day deliveries across much of China, JD.com aims to provide an efficient food delivery service. This new initiative comes amid intensifying competition in the e-commerce sector, with rivals like Alibaba Group, PDD Holdings, and Douyin also vying for market share.
