In a concerning development, 4Earth Farms has announced an expanded recall of products originally associated with Grimmway Farms, citing the potential risk of Shiga toxin – producing E. coli contamination. This recall has far – reaching implications for consumers who may have purchased certain vegetable medleys and organic whole carrots from various retailers.
The affected products include a range of vegetable medleys, such as the 12 – ounce Organic Vegetable Medley sold under the Wild Harvest brand at Albert’s Organics (UPC: 711535517733), and multiple Marketside – branded medleys sold at Walmart. These include a 12 – ounce Vegetable Medley (UPC: 681131179461), a 32 – ounce Vegetable Medley (UPC: 681131457378), and a 12 – ounce Stir Fry Medley (UPC: 681131457460). Additionally, 1 – pound Organic Whole Carrots sold by Grimmway at Kennedy Produce are also part of the recall.
The products with best – by dates ranging from September 7 to November 2, 2024, are included in the recall. Although many of these dates have likely passed, consumers are urged to still check their freezers as these items may have been stored for an extended period.
This recall is linked to a broader outbreak that has already resulted in significant health consequences. To date, there have been 39 reported illnesses, 15 hospitalizations, and unfortunately, one death. The gravity of this situation cannot be understated, as E. coli infections can cause severe illness, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. There is also a high risk of cross – contamination, as the bacteria can easily spread to kitchen surfaces.
For consumers, immediate action is advised. They should thoroughly check their refrigerators and freezers for any of the recalled products, regardless of whether they have expired. If any of these items are found, they should be discarded immediately. Furthermore, any surfaces that may have come into contact with the produce should be carefully sanitized. Consumers are also cautioned to be vigilant for symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever for up to 10 days after potential consumption.
Those with questions or concerns about the recall can reach out to the 4Earth Farms Recall Hotline at 855 – 918 – 1706, available from 8 AM to 4:30 PM Pacific Time. In case of any medical concerns, individuals are strongly encouraged to consult a healthcare provider without delay.
