Adopting a healthy lifestyle can be challenging, but small changes can make a big impact. Dr. John Whyte, Chief Medical Officer at WebMD, shared tips on improving nutrition for better health.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Dr. Whyte stressed that food is as powerful as medicine, affecting every system of the body. He recommends starting with these three simple swaps:
1. Drink More Water
Dr. Whyte advises replacing sugary drinks with water. “Sweetened beverages add many unnecessary calories,” he said. Switching to water can help with weight loss and control blood sugar.
2. Swap Meat for Fish
Replace meat with fish once a week. Fish is lower in calories and packed with essential nutrients. “It’s a superfood,” Dr. Whyte said, encouraging people to try different fish varieties for health benefits.
3. Choose Healthier Snacks
Dr. Whyte suggests swapping chips and cookies for healthier options like vegetables and hummus or unsalted nuts. Preparing healthy snacks in advance makes it easier to make better choices.
He also highlighted concerns about processed foods, which are cheaper but less healthy. Dr. Whyte advocates for eating more whole, plant-based foods, similar to those in “blue zones” where people live longer, healthier lives.
For healthier choices, he advises checking food labels for recognizable ingredients. “The less processed, the better,” he concluded.
