New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger has vowed to avoid chicken wings for the next five years following a severe case of food poisoning.
Bellinger made the announcement Wednesday, two days after eating traditional, bone-in wings from room service at the team hotel in Detroit. While watching the NCAA tournament national championship game, Bellinger enjoyed the wings with no sauces or seasoning.
“They were good coming in,” Bellinger said, but he woke up at 4 a.m. feeling unwell, spending hours vomiting. “It was a tough morning,” he added. As a result, Bellinger missed the Yankees’ game Tuesday against the Tigers.
“I can say I will not eat wings for five years,” he stated. “I swear. The thought of it right now makes me sick.”
Despite the setback, the 29-year-old returned to the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Tigers, feeling much better after resting and hydrating. “I feel good today,” Bellinger said. “I slept a ton last night and I’m ready to play.”
