India has affirmed its stance of refraining from implementing export constraints on non-basmati parboiled rice, as emphasized by Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra on Tuesday.
In a surprising move last month, India had instituted a ban on the export of commonly consumed non-basmati white rice, a decision that followed a similar ban on broken rice exports the previous year.
At present, the Indian government has no intentions of imposing any limitations on the export of parboiled rice, a variety that constitutes a substantial portion—approximately one-third—of the country’s overall rice exports. This statement from Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra underscores India’s continued commitment to maintaining the flow of non-basmati parboiled rice in the international market.
