Heath Davis’ latest dramedy, “Christmess,” filmed in Campbelltown, is set to make its debut at the upcoming Austin Film Festival in Texas next month, joining the lineup of this prestigious event.
Written and directed by Heath Davis, the film stars Steve Le Marquand as Chris Flint, a once-famous actor fresh out of rehab, desperate to turn his life around. Chris takes on an unlikely job as Santa Claus in a suburban strip mall, where he unexpectedly crosses paths with his long-estranged daughter, portrayed by Nicole Pastor, and her infant grandson.
Guided by the love and support of his sponsor, Nick (Darren Gilshenan), and aided by a sharp-tongued musician in recovery named Joy, played by Hannah Joy, the lead singer of Middle Kids, Chris embarks on a journey to maintain his sobriety and win back his daughter’s forgiveness, just in time for Christmas.
The film is produced by Daniel Fenech of Brick Studios, in collaboration with Cindy Pritchard, Nicola Nossal, Rick Beecroft, Jai Kemp, and Matthew McCracken. Shot over three weeks in the first half of the previous year, “Christmess” is scheduled for release by Bonsai Films in cinemas across Australia and New Zealand on November 30th.
“Christmess” joins other noteworthy films in the festival lineup, including Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn,” starring Jacob Elordi, and Brian Helgeland’s new crime-thriller “Finestkind,” featuring Toby Wallace. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Austin Film Festival.
Heath Davis expressed his excitement about the upcoming premiere, stating that Austin is his favorite city globally, known for its vibrant indie filmmaking and music scene. “Christmess” embodies the spirit of indie creativity, and Davis anticipates an enthusiastic reception from the Austin audience, making it an exhilarating experience for the entire team.
The Austin Film Festival is scheduled to take place from October 26th to November 2nd, 2023.
