In the midst of the ongoing conflict in Israel, a celebrated Israeli chef has taken it upon himself to make a significant difference in the lives of his fellow countrymen, and he’s finding support for his noble cause in the heart of New York City.
Eyal Shani, a well-known chef, is orchestrating efforts to provide sustenance and care to those in dire need in Israel. This compassionate initiative reaches out to displaced families, patients in hospitals, and the valiant soldiers serving their nation.
“We transform our kitchens in Tel Aviv into food production hubs, churning out 3,000 meals daily. This is the most vital mission of my life,” Shani expressed with determination.
The outpouring of support has extended to his more than 40 restaurants worldwide, including those in New York City, all united under the banner of the Good People Group.
Miznon, a restaurant with three locations in the city, including one in Chelsea Market, is contributing to this humanitarian endeavor by donating 10% of its proceeds throughout the month of October.
“As cooks, our mission is to nourish people. Providing support during these challenging times is the most natural thing for us to do, as it brings happiness to those in need,” explained Liad Balki, the head of operations at Miznon NYC.
Although he may currently be in the bustling streets of the Big Apple, Balki’s heart remains firmly in his homeland of Israel. The restaurant group has faced the painful loss of four team members in the recent conflict with Hamas, with several family members still unaccounted for.
Shani and his dedicated team, numbering over 1,000 strong, are tirelessly joined by numerous volunteers who are involved in every step, from cooking and packaging to delivering food to those who require it the most.
“We are a united front, supporting one another. In these dark times, there is an overwhelming sense of togetherness that brings immense joy,” Shani affirmed.
Through combined efforts across all their locations and global events, the entire restaurant group has set an inspiring goal of donating $500,000 to support humanitarian relief efforts in Israel.
