Rockhampton residents will soon have the opportunity to delve into the complexities of childhood food allergies and explore cutting-edge medical research uncovering potential new treatments. A free public forum, titled “Navigating Childhood Food Allergies,” is slated to take place in the area.
Bringing together expertise from various fields, the event will feature internationally renowned QIMR Berghofer Immunologist Associate Professor Severine Navarro, alongside Central Queensland general practitioner Dr. Joan Chamberlain, and paediatric nutritionist Kate Willis.
Associate Professor Navarro highlighted the pressing nature of allergic diseases, citing them as one of the fastest-growing chronic conditions nationwide. Australian children, she noted, are estimated to have the highest prevalence of food allergies globally.
“For parents caring for children with food allergies, whether mild or severe, the task is undeniably challenging,” expressed Associate Professor Navarro. “It entails constant vigilance, meticulous meal planning, and the often-dreaded role of being the ‘fun police’ at social gatherings.”
The forum aims to empower parents and families by providing practical guidance on managing food allergies and recognizing symptoms, making it a valuable resource for anyone supporting those with complex dietary needs.
The family-friendly event invites participation from all interested parties, emphasizing inclusivity and accessibility in disseminating crucial information on childhood food allergy management.
